Update: 2020/2021 Season
Dear Naismith Family,
It's been quite a year full of challenges and, as we look forward to our upcoming season, we face some even greater hurdles. We all are looking forward to getting back on the court and I thought I'd take this opportunity to update you on where we are currently at with Naismith Basketball and the news coming from Ontario Basketball surrounding the start of the upcoming season.
First and foremost, the safety of all our Association members is the number one priority which is why we won't be making any decisions which don't align with the recommendations of both Health Canada and our governing body of Ontario Basketball. With that in mind, Ontario Basketball has announced that we have entered Phase 3 of the "return to play initiative. These guidelines can be found on the following link:
Although these "phase 3" steps include sharing a ball at practice and non-contact drills, being able to run some semblance of a practice and actually having a facility that will allow us to practice within are two very different things indeed. Our greatest obstacle for the start up of our Naismith program will be gym availability. At this time we have no concrete date or sense from the school boards as to when and if after-school access will be given for gym use. Once we have some updated information as to our ability to access gyms we will have a greater sense as to when we can begin Registration and get our season up and running. As of now we anticipate at minimum a later start to the season, however as information is made available I will be sure to keep our Naismith coaches, players and parents informed and up to date.
Below are some useful links to help keep you up to date and informed
Take Care,
Mathew Bennett
